The bell tower of the Makaryevsky Monastery @Kalyazin, Russia, is the only visible remnant above the waters of the Uglich reservoir.

The Makaryevsky Monastery, founded in the fourteenth century, disappeared under the waters, together with its ensemble of peripheral buildings in 1940  during the construction of the Uglich Reservoir , an artificial lake created by the (then) comunist goverment for the benefit of transportation, energy, and water supply.

There is a manmade island around the first floor of the belfry above the waters, along with a small wooden pier for boats.
